Have you looked up how much braces cost and noticed that prices vary a lot from one clinic to another? The difference is not accidental. It depends on the type of braces, the complexity of the case and the services included in the treatment.
This article shows you transparently how much braces cost in Romania, for each category available, plus the additional costs worth bearing in mind before you start treatment.
What influences the cost of braces
There is no universal price for braces. The final cost depends on several factors, not just on the type of braces chosen:
- the type of braces – fixed (metal, ceramic, sapphire), removable or clear (aligners);
- the number of arches treated – one arch or both, which directly affects the total cost;
- the complexity of the case – the degree of crowding, the type of bite and any skeletal problems;
- the number of consultations and checkups needed during treatment, which lasts on average between 12 and 24 months;
- the retention phase after active treatment, often left out of initial estimates.
Price differences between clinics are not only down to the type of braces. The total cost may or may not include consultations, regular checkups, retention or other services related to the treatment. That is why it is important to always compare what the offer includes, not just the price shown.
How much fixed braces cost – metal, ceramic or sapphire
For many complex cases, braces in Romania still means the fixed option – bonded directly onto the teeth for precise control of tooth movement. At Dental CATTED, the prices for fixed braces are:
- Fixed metal braces / arch: 3,100 RON
- Fixed ceramic braces / arch: 3,500 RON
- Fixed sapphire braces / arch: 4,200 – 5,000 RON
👉 The prices above are per arch. If treatment requires both arches – the most common situation – the cost of the brackets doubles. Many adults choose sapphire or ceramic precisely because they are more discreet; you can read more about the options suited to adults in our article on braces for adults.
How much Spark Aligners clear braces cost
Clear aligners are priced differently, usually as a complete package rather than per arch separately from the rest of the treatment. At Dental CATTED, several clear aligner options are available (both arches included):
- Spark 10 (both arches): 12,500 RON
- Spark 20 (both arches): 17,000 RON
- Spark 35 (both arches): 20,000 RON
- Spark Advanced (retainer tray included): 23,000 RON
- Retainer tray (for Spark): 600 RON
You can find out more about how the technology works in our dedicated article on Spark Aligners.
Other types of braces and their costs
Besides fixed braces and clear aligners, there are a few other categories with their own prices, used mainly in specific cases:
- Removable appliance / arch: 1,500 RON;
- Palatal expander: 1,700 – 5,000 RON;
- Twin Block / Carriere Motion: 2,000 – 3,500 RON.
These solutions are indicated in particular situations – from correcting problems with jaw development to cases where the arch needs to be expanded before the main treatment. The orthodontist recommends the right option only after a clinical assessment.
Which additional costs to budget for
The price of the braces themselves is not the only cost of orthodontic treatment. A few associated expenses that many patients do not factor in at first:
- the initial consultation with the orthodontist: 250 RON;
- regular checkups (every 4–6 weeks, throughout treatment): 100 RON / checkup;
- the retainer tray or fixed retainer after active treatment: 500 RON.
👉 Retention is not an optional cost. Without it, the teeth tend to move partly back to their original position, which can undo the result achieved. Always include it in the total treatment budget.
You can pay for braces in installments
Complete orthodontic treatment, especially with Spark aligners, is a significant expense. At Dental CATTED, the cost can be spread through our partnership with TBI Bank, as monthly installments adapted to your budget.
This option is particularly useful for the Spark Advanced packages or for treatments involving both arches, where the total amount is higher. The financing terms are discussed directly at the consultation, depending on the treatment plan chosen.
Frequently asked questions (FAQ)
How much do braces cost in Romania?
It depends mainly on the type chosen. Fixed metal braces cost 3,100 RON per arch, ceramic braces 3,500 RON and sapphire braces between 4,200 and 5,000 RON. Spark aligners cost between 10,000 RON (one arch) and 23,000 RON (complete treatment, both arches). Consultations and the final retention phase come on top of this.
Why are sapphire braces more expensive than metal ones?
Sapphire is a monocrystalline material, more transparent and visually more discreet than metal or standard ceramic. The manufacturing process is more complex, and the aesthetic result is better for patients who want fixed braces that are as unobtrusive as possible. The price difference reflects both the material and the finishing technology.
Are Spark aligners more expensive than fixed braces?
Usually, yes – especially for treatment on both arches. However, the Spark price often includes the retainer tray, and the advantages in terms of comfort, hygiene and discretion weigh heavily for many patients in the final choice. The right decision depends on the complexity of the case and on your priorities, agreed together with your orthodontist.
Does the price of the braces include later checkups?
No. The price shown for the braces themselves does not include regular checkups, which are invoiced separately, usually 100 RON per visit. Over a treatment lasting 12–24 months, these checkups add up to a cumulative cost worth including in your total budget.
What happens if I don’t wear my retainer after treatment?
Teeth have a natural tendency to move partly back toward their original position once active treatment is over. Without retention, this relapse can partially or completely undo the result achieved. That is why the cost of the retainer tray or fixed retainer should be included in the financial planning of the whole treatment.
Can orthodontic treatment be paid for in installments?
Yes. At Dental CATTED, orthodontic treatment can be paid for in monthly installments through our partnership with TBI Bank. This option is available for both fixed braces and Spark Aligners packages, and the exact details are set according to the recommended treatment plan.
